SPACE BETWEEN SPACES: PASSAGEWAYS IN YOUR GARDEN

Using pathways through your garden to connect distinctly different areas will enable you to break it up into different spaces, and let visitors move freely from one space to another.

3 STEPS TO CREATING GARDEN SPACE

Define the Spaces

Before you begin you will need to plan what you want. Defining the spaces first will then enable you to benefit from a clear structure. Splitting areas of your garden so that they have different purposes will enable you to create different settings and moods – some might be spacious and relaxing, while others might be cozy and intimate.

Create Pathway Features

The point of a pathway is that it takes you somewhere. This means that you will need to add a feature in each area. Consider what you will find at the end of each path and your reasons for moving there. Choose pavers that encourage a visitor to walk along the pathways and explore.

Incorporate Steps

A change of level will clearly define spaces. You can achieve this with natural garden gradients or you can manufacture them by landscaping. Including a section of raised decking is also a good option that works wonders for creating a dining space.
