African Mazista Multicolour Slate Flooring - Characteristics  Multicolour Slate

This very hard, dense floor slate has beautiful colours on a black background with splashes of gold, orange through to almost red. It is natural split on both sides so there is a choice of surface depending on preferred colour and texture. It is suitable for all internal & external areas on any hard surface - sealed or unsealed.

Slate Tiles - No Building Product More Natural & Less Processed

A measure of the environmental credentials of a building product is the involvement by man and process up to the point where it is fixed to a building. On that basis this slate is a clear winner. This slate has a natural split surface which means it is split along natural cleavage lines and does not require expensive, energy sapping, processing machinery to saw it. However, It does mean the thickness of the material varies a bit - naturally!

Slate Colours & Texture Enhanced with Natural Split Surface Multicolour Slate

Slate splits naturally along planes reveals pallets of vivid colour not seen in stone with processed surfaces. The topography of the surface is intricate and has character, depth and grain - as you will see in the image below. Flakes of slate that are occasionally seen are evidence that the stone is high enough quality to split naturally and that it is genuinely slate. The flakes if present, are easily removed as explained in the FAQ section.

Sealing Slate?

The image on the right is of a multicolour slate that has been sealed with a surface sealer that enhances and darkens the colour. It also creates a gloss or semi-gloss finish. There are other sealer options available that leave the slate with a more natural finish. If you need to discuss these, please give us a call - we are happy to help.

African Multicolour Slate

The images below are of unsealed slate whereas the images at the top of the page have had surface sealers applied; these result in a satin or gloss finish with enhanced colour.

The image below is of natural slate straight out of the crate with no sealant applied. The pieces were chosen to demonstrate the range of colours that are typical of multicolour slate.

The images below are also of Multicolour slate; on the left the slate is untreated but on the right the slate has been moistened to illustrate the effect that a colour enhancing sealer (eg Seal & Finish Low Sheen) might make. Some sealers eg Sealer's Choice Gold will have little effect on the colour of the slate so the finished surface will look more like the image on the left.
